  • Overview

    This position will oversee the day to day operations required to support global network and voice operations including corporate headquarters, branch offices and manufacturing facilities. Utilizing managed service providers and internal resource, this role will be responsible for developing communication plans for coordinating site outages and maintenance work.


    This position will be responsible for assisting with the technical design, planning, implementation, trouble-shooting and performance management of the network and voice environments to support mission critical enterprise systems and sites. They serve as a technical expert for complex technology solutions such as Routing, Switching, WAN/LAN, Ingress/Egress, Wireless, VoIP, and provider connectivity for corporate offices and remote/branch sites as well as remote workers. Technologies include but are not limited to DMZ, WAN, LAN, WLAN, VPN, and VoIP communications as well as mobile device solutions and carriers.


    This position will act as a key strategic advisor to the IT team, key stakeholders and end users. Other duties include assisting project teams with technical issues and solution, as well as technical analysis and design and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions.


    This individual should be and self-motivated and capable of working both independently as well as part of a team.


    • Provide technical expertise and platform leadership in areas of Cisco WAN, LAN, VoIP, WLAN, VPN and Firewall technologies.
    • Coordinate activities of managed service providers to configure, implement, maintain and troubleshoot a variety of Cisco Hardware/Software Products including: L2 & L3 Switches, Cisco Call Manager, VPN Concentrators, Firewalls, Routers, WLAN, FTD/Firepower, etc. Other vendor hardware/software support may also be required including Palo Alto firewalls, Avaya Communications Manager and Unity, etc.
    • Provide overview and guidance to managed service provider for the scheduling and performance of network maintenance, repairs, and upgrades
    • Act as technical resources in response to outages, network issues and various support tasks
    • Proactively manage the availability, service and security requirements of these systems to an average of 99.999% uptime
    • Audit and coordinate Smartnet and other communication related maintenance contracts
    • Assist in the management of other data, server and security systems as dictated by the environment
    • Work with customer service specialists and other infrastructure support personnel to resolve customer service calls within SLA guidelines and department standards
    • Improve proactive monitoring capabilities and utilize tools to perform advanced monitoring and reporting related to network systems, and provide periodic metrics on network performance and functionality
    • Assist in developing tactical and strategic plans for the network resources based on trends, growth, available metrics, etc
    • Coordinate change planning to systems in order to eliminate customer impact and to ensure that availability SLAs are met
    • Assist with developing and maintaining standard configurations and deployments for network and voice Infrastructure
    • Update and validate documentation as required
    • Assistance in the Development of Standards, Guidelines, Best Practices and Policies for technology usage
    • Provide new Technology Research and Recommendations
    • Act as escalation point and SME for Avaya and Cisco VoIP environments
    • Other duties and projects as assigned



    • 5+ years of experience in implementing and supporting day to day operations of voice and network solutions
    • 5+ years’ experience with Cisco Switches, Routers, VPN Concentrators, Firewalls, WLAN and Load balancers including the ability to configure, troubleshoot and maintain Cisco platforms including call manager, routers, switches, firewalls, etc.
    • Strong hands-on routing knowledge of network/internet protocols/services such as SONET, ATM, MPLS, DS3, T1, GigE, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, DNS, IPSec, and NAT.
    • Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and network-related problems encountered by end-users of the company network, the Internet, PCs and new computer technology
    • Understanding of Network Cabling, labeling and troubleshooting various network drops onsite
    • Knowledge of server operations, Security technologies such as Firewalls, Intrusion prevention and Data Loss Prevention.
    • Strong knowledge of various routing protocols including BGP, RIPV2, EIGRP, OSPF
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze situations and utilize troubleshooting skills, systems and tools, and problem-solving abilities under pressure
    • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
    • Strong understanding of the change management process
    • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to successfully handle conflict and be able to maintain calm in stressful situations
