    Perform as a technical resource and project team member providing expertise and guidance with the research and development of vision care products.  This individual is expected to represent the formulations group on project teams and to coordinate activities with outside functional groups including microbiology, toxicology, analytical chemistry and process engineering. Has broad and in-depth understanding of buffer systems, novel polymers, surfactants, disinfectants and can design and develop complex experiments to test hypotheses, and perform insightful review of data. Can author technical reports, and interpret scientific data. Has excellent communication skills, works well with cross-functional teams, and can train junior team members.

    Responsibilities

    • Innovate new ideas for vision care products
    • Provide product design, development, and support for  vision care solutions
    • Serves as core team member or technical leader representing formulations group – providing technical expertise and support to project team
    • Prepare reports summarizing product design, specifications, release documents, testing and/or development data
    • Directs and performs laboratory work and ensures deliverables
    • Prepares technical reports and documentation for regulatory filings
    • Provide expert interpretation of laboratory results and experiments
    • Mentors and guides the work of junior scientific and/or technical staff
    • Interacts with other functions within R&D and outside of R&D to support new product development or maintenance of business activities
    • Direct physical, wet chemistry and instrumental analysis (HPLC/GC and GPC preferred)
    • Contributes to patents, scientific literature, and marketing support documentation

    Qualifications

    • Technical expert for solution buffer systems, polymers, surfactants, and disinfectants
    • Good working knowledge with regulated medical device industry (ISO/FDA) preferred
    • Ability to independently design experiments to support product development
    • Technical project leadership abilities
    • Must demonstrate extensive physical, wet chemistry and instrumental analysi experience
    • Demonstrated expertise w/ MS Office product (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
    • Experience w/ statistical analysis applications (Minitab preferred)
    • Strong laboratory problem solving, and experimental design skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to interact and present data within all levels of the organization
    • BS with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience, MS with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience, Ph.D. 0 – 2 years relevant experience

    Working Conditions: General laboratory including safety glasses and lab coats.  General office activities. Bending, standing, reaching, typing, walking, some light lifting.
